Remixing

Been quiet for a while, soz. We're remixing a few tracks from Protect & Survive to make available as full downloads. There's also now a MySpace Redpoint page with full versions of four P&S tunes. The plan is to pimp around the remixed tracks and cook up a bit of interest in the album. As ever, though, the pace is glacial. Stupid work and domestic commitments...

Started new material

Just knocked up a few tracks for a new EP to be finished later this year. We want to do something more upbeat - ideally as a mix that begins in a fairly ambient way and cranks up to a decidedly banging finale. One of the new tunes, 'Permafrost', is sort of Autechre meets Ennio Morricone. Oooh, yes.

Protect & Survive release readied for sometime in March. I've sent the album to our stalkee/buddy Ulrich Schnauss who's already e-mailed back saying he's looking forward to receiving it. If he likes it, we're gonna push for a support slot the next time he comes to the UK. Towards the end of October 2004, we holed up in a strange little cottage at the edge of Suffolk for a couple of days to do some work on P&S. I'm looking into somewhere closer to home, so we can head off there soonish and hone some kind of live set...

Wrapped...

Great fun. Shot in two hours, edited in one.

The bloke who liked to think he was in charge of the shoot was a hectoring tit who got his kicks bullying the 16-year-old runner. We pretty much bypassed him and worked via the Assistant Director who was ace.

Pics above. Film downloadable when I can blag the bandwidth...

Movie shoot

Off to make a one-minute film tomorrow at Pinewood. Work-related thing, but I've written a short little surreal/horror story that I'm hoping could be used as a video for a future Redpoint choon that's currently sloshing around my head...

Pic of one of the actresses we're using above.

Woah.

It's done!

All the last minute stuff nipped and tucked, now. We have an album. Well, a collection of songs that we like to call an album. The next step is to get a half-decent distributor to agree with us.

One of the reasons we've seen this through - overcoming numerous creative crises, one or two dark 'What's the point?' moments, plenty of travelling and production by e-mail - is that we want as many people as possible to hear the damn thing.

Balls to the old 'We make music for ourselves and if people like it, that's a bonus' cliche. We've invested a lot into this in the hope that people will get an emotional kick out of it.

So, yeah. Sending it out to a select group, this morning... Tiny bit nervous about what they're gonna make of it, but I think we're both pretty sturdy in our belief that it's a strong piece of work with tunes, carefully crafted structure and - yeah - little bits of themes and hidden/muffled treats to discover...

Final mixdown

Ian and I are finalising the Protect And Survive album tracks today. It's got to fly, now.
